Florida's Homestead Exemption

How to file for Homestead Exemption
Florida's Homestead Exemption allows to reduce by $25,000 the value on which property taxes are levied. To qualify, you must own the property as of December 31st, reside in the property, and be a legal resident of the state of florida.

Applications for homestead exemption are accepted from January 2nd until March 1st. If you are a new homeowner who qualifies, you need to register. To register, you need to bring:

• Social Security Numbers for all Owners who Reside on the Property

• Tax bill in your name

• Warranty deed

• Florida Driver's License

• Florida Car Registration

• Florida Voters Registration Card

• If you are a non-U.S. citizen, you must bring your resident alien card.

• If the title is held in trust, the trust document must be produced.

Once registered, there is no need to renew the exemption. Note that satellite offices are not open all hours or all days:
